Yesterday I slept late and by the time I caught up my email, it was already well past noon.  I’m current with replies.  Today is a minor holy day in then Church of the Ellipsoid Orb.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 3:17 (average 4:26).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From Yahoo News: There’s no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy.

The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario. Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found. Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

I can’t testify to the accuracy, but I have observed numerous examples.

From MoveOn: How To Explain Taxes And The Budget To Non-Economists

Note that taking everything away from the poor and middle classes, as Republicans are attempting to do will still not balance the budget.

From NY Times: President Nicolas Sarkozy announced on Friday that France would break with its allies in NATO and accelerate the French withdrawal from Afghanistan, pulling back combat troops a year early, by the end of 2013. Mr. Sarkozy also said that he and Afghanistan’s president, Hamid Karzai, would ask the NATO alliance for a similar speedup of the transfer of primary security responsibilities to Afghan troops.

If even the puppet Republicans appointed to betray Afghanistan’s people doesn’t want us there, we should accommodate his wishes.

  1. IQ — If the finding is valid, is the corollary also valid — racist people have low IQ’s?  If so, then why is the US looking to potentially have a low IQ president?  A president that can’t think through situations, needs order to be able to comprend at any level, and lacks the ability to change under any circumstances is a recipe for disaster.  But then, maybe that’s what the corporate masters want — someone easily manipulated and easily duped!  Oh the Republican/Teabaggers have been taken down a peg, haven’t they!

Budgeting 101 — Excellent depiction!  Even the lower IQ Republican/Teabaggers should be able to follow this, but if they can’t, let me say “Guys, this means that dad has to put more money into paying the family expenses!  Vegas has to wait!”.

Afghanistan — Canada pulled out in 2011, France by the end of 2013.  If Karzai, who originally asked for the help, is now asking the help to leave, then I would leave, and the sooner, the better!

Cartoon — Great cartoon TC, but don’t you think there is enough space junk up there already?!?  That stuff keeps falling back to earth lately.  Maybe this one will fall into the ocean and go to the very bottom.  Wait, that’s pollution!  Big fine for the US!  Get Arizona to pay the fine!

    • Lynn, a low IQ President is exactly what Republicans prefer.  Look how much they loved Bush.

Do you really think they know how to read it.  In red states illiteracy is well over 50%.

Karzai never asked for the help.  He was an oil company employee in the US when Bush invaded.

That is an ICBM.  It is not designed to become space junk.  It is designed ti come back down and go BOOM!

  2. Now I have to revise my tirade on SC – ir is a territory reserved for the mentally challenged – got it! Like an entire state of poor unfortunates that haven’t been privileged to receive a proper education – now I feel sorry for what I said – but will know how to greet the folks from that state and will be prepared with crayons and dick jane and spot books. Pity them!

As for the money graph – all the numbers are to high – you’d have to start at the mother’s salary in the home for me!

I had so many reservations about O’s desire to pursue the Afghan war – it was too late – had the twig not distracted our interests by invading Iraq illegally – concentrated on Afghanistan as should have been done – then it wouldn’t have come to this – we’ve got to get out the sooner the better! It’s a territory like SC – not too intelligent – and instead of tobacco, they grow poppies for opium!

    • Good thinking!

      It is high.

Lee, Afghanistan is so backward thatr the vast majority of Afghans have never heard of either Osama bin Laden or 9/11.

  3. 3:26

I’ve read a lot of similar reports on intelligence and conservatives.

Since the RepublicanTs can’t see their way around raising taxes on the rich because of Grover Norquist, maybe they should all go to the moon with the Newtster, his rich Sugar Daddy & Mommy and take the Koch brothers with them.

Karzai wants us out. We should get out even earlier than he asks.

    Apt cartoon.

  4. Is that Michelle Obama wishing Brewer a Bon Voyage?  Unlike Jan, how classy of her!

  5. That budgeting thing really hits it out of the park.

    Funny cartoon!

  6. 3:08  not bad.  I even surprised myself.
