Farewell Gabby!

Gabrielle Giffords is a Blue Dog.  I did not always agree with her votes, but I have to admire her courage, and any Republican would have been far worse.  A little over a year ago, Sarah “Bullseye Barbie” Palin, former Republican candidate for Vice President, turned professional liar for Faux Noise, targeted Gabby with cross-hairs, and a madman, Jared Lee Loughner, pulled the trigger, killing six and wounding thirteen, including Gabby.  Yesterday Gabby announced her retirement.

23gabbyJust over a year after being shot in the head by a crazed constituent at a Congress-on-your-corner event at a Tuscon [sic] super market, Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords on Sunday announced via Facebook that she is resigning her office.

“I have more work to do on my recovery so to do what is best for Arizona I will step down this week,” she said in a video statement posted on Facebook. The two-minute clip was overlaid with images of Giffords before and after the shooting, working with constituents and recovering. “I’m getting better every day,” she said. “My spirit is high.”

Giffords spent much of this month honoring the victims of the shooting, which wounded 13 and left six dead. The shooter, Jared Lee Loughner, is schizophrenic and courts are still trying to decide if he is competent to stand trial. He pleaded not guilty in March…

Here’s the video:

Farewell Gabby.  Thank you for your service and for your courage. I wish you and yours every happiness.

I certainly hope a Democrat wins Gabby’s seat.  Under the circumstances it would be most unjust for it to fall to the Party of Death.

  1. ” I certainly hope a Democrat wins Gabby’s seat.  Under the circumstances it would be most unjust for it to fall to the Party of Death.” My thoughts exactly, TomCat. It’s too bad an absolute maniac had to end what was becoming a promising career. We wish her the very, very best!

  2. Please let a true Progressive Dem win her seat in Congress.

I wish her a full recovery.

  3. Gabrielle Giffords has been an inspiration to most of us, and we wish her Godspeed in her continued recovery!  Also, although I generally consider myself an independent, to call the Republican Party the “Party of Death” is rather extremist, and just perpetuates the culture of hate.

    • Welcome Margaret. 🙂

I respectfully disagree.  Nobody on the left is making death threats.  Nowhere on the left are we taking Psalm 106 out of context and using it as a prayer for Obama’s death.  Nowhere on the left are we showing up to political events packing weapons.  Nowhere on the left are we proposing Second Amendment solutions.  Nowhere on the left does the right to life begin at conception and end at birth.  Nowhere on the left are governors cancelling scheduled transplants, causing the death of the patients, to cut taxes for millionaires.  And nobody on the left pasted a bullseye on Gabrielle Giffords.  Calling the Republican Party the Party of Death is not hateful.  It is accurate.  Nothing would please me more than to see them change.

  4. Yes, the Party of Death, both at home and abroad.  The party of undeclared wars — death.  The party of don’t get sick, and if you do ,die quickly — death.

Very aptly named.  Well done, TomCat.

  5. In the video, Gaby Giffords shows herself to be a woman of grace; a woman of faith, not of religious faith but of faith in the human spirit, her spirit; a woman of courage; a woman of determination; a woman of dedication to her constituents and country.  Although I had had never heard of her until that tragic day, I watched and prayed for her and all of those who were wounded.  I also prayed for those who were killed, lives cut short, especially a 13 year old girl for whom a lifetime lay ahead until she was brutally robbed.

Gaby Giffords is stepping down from her seat to focus more on recovery.  Since she’s a Democrat, I’ll bet that battleaxe Jan Brewer is doing handsprings in hopes of having another Republican in Congress.  May Gaby Gifford’s successor be a true Progressive — Arizona is in deep need of one!

Republican/Teabaggers = the party of death!  AMEN!

    • Very well said, Lynn.  I’m not sure, but I believe the Arizona Death Angel, Jan Brewer, gets to appoint a temporary replacement for the rest of they year.  If so, it will be someone just like Joe Arpaio.

  6. The Klanservative Klanbagging Kochsuckers did not learn a thing from what happened here. Quite frankly, I suspect a lot of them were less than saddened by what happened, and that includes Mama “Blood Libel” Grifter.

  7. She will be deeply missed – she really is a true inspiration.  I hope that she will indeed be back in political life eventually, as her spirit and determination are both needed, even if she has a more conservative bent than some Democrats.

  8. why is there no discussion here of the ridiculous laws that allow automatic guns and the ammo that was used to create the circumstances encountered here – as long as the 2nd amendment is hyped as being SO god damned important to “protect” human life – these incidents will occur and every person who supports this insanity is partially responsible for these incidents that will continue to happen! For Shame!!!!!! Not one bill was presented – well long live the guns and gunmen of Amerika – seems they have priorities that differ from mine – a little collateral damage is Gabby Giffords!

    • Perhaps the reason is that the focus of this article was Republican hate speech rather than gun control.  At the time of the incident, it was well discussed here.
