Yesterday I slept late and took a long nap, so I did not get started on planned tasks.  That’s OK, I obviously needed the rest, and I got my research done.  I’m current on replies.  Today I still have that paperwork to do.

Jig Zone Puzzle:

Today it took me 4:29 (average 6:21).  To do it, click here.  How did you do?

Short Takes:

From The Guardian: Barack Obama has taken a big step towards preserving one of the world’s natural wonders, banning uranium mining on 1m acres of land around the Grand Canyon.

The move, announced by the interior secretary, Ken Salazar, at a film screening in Washington, bans new mining claims around the canyon for the next 20 years. The area is rich in uranium deposits.

I’ve been to the canyon enough times that I’m glad to see that unique vista is being protected, despite Republican attempts to despoil it.  Kudos to Obama.

From Crooks and Liars: How Georgia Republicans Teach Math

This represents Republican wishful thinking at it’s worst.

From Washington Post: Despite his absence from early primary coverage, Current TV’s Keith Olbermann will soon be part of the act.

In a tweet posted Sunday, the volatile anchor of the “Countdown” show said he would be “running the election coverage of Current” after Tuesday’s New Hampshire primary. On Monday, a Current representative confirmed Olbermann would host future coverage.

I’m glad to see this.  Current’s election coverage has been sub-par without their best at the helm.

  1. Grand Canyon — I have never been there except through pictures but it is phenomenal and awe inspiring.  I am glad that Mr Obama did the right thing!  I signed several petitions as did thousands upon thousands of others.  It’s nice to think that those people were partially responsible for helping Mr Obama make his decision.

Teaching Math in Georgia — I have two words for teachers who think up such heinous cirriculum — You’re fired!  When you think how much time a child spends at school and doing homework, even at the grade 3 level, teachers have a huge influence on young impressionable minds.  The school board representative said they would work with teachers to ensure that this didn’t happen again.  But what I would like to know is why these presumably adult teachers would even need this kind of remedial help?  I am sorry that these parents had to have difficult convrsations with their kids, but I am glad that they came forward to expose this biotry and BS.  And people wonder where kids pick up the bullying!

Keith Olbermann — Hope you’ll have lots of Olbermann in the coming weeks and months!  He is excellent to listen to.

Cartoon —  Rather than ordinary hip-waders, can I suggest the overall style that covers you chest high, just in case you slip in his pig slop!  I’m starting to get the shivers every time I see the man.  Should have put a clothespin on that poor dogs nose!

Such good news about the Grand Canyon!!!

Definitely wishful thinking on RepublicanTs part inre: math tests in Georgia.

May I suggest a full wet suit instead of chest waders. You don’t want any of that Santorum getting on you.

  3. I’ve never been to the Grand Canyon – came close – 2 summers in New Mexico  but never saw it – which is prettier a pile of rocks or a pile of “greenbacks” ? That’s the thinking of the republican board room, and as for the questions on the math test – “Your Fired” is the only response that one would be heard  north of the Mason/Dixon line – it wouldn’t be a discussion! Maybe those questions were part of the Texas school board curriculum that became so famous just a couple of years ago for creating text books with new history, and racist ideology? Maybe you’re more familiar with that TC being from that area.

  4.

santorum is a bottom feeder who is a closet case.  My life experience has taught me that anyone who is a major homophobe, eventually is outed as a self hater.

President Obama has finally done something for the environment.  I hope Salazar choked when making this announcement.

KO is one of my heroes….Tom thanks for all the updates and info!

  5. 6:29  WOW, not even close to either you or Patty.  I need more practice.  My December break is catching up with me.

  6. Not only are some of Georgia’s math teachers out-and-out racists – they’re also not very bright.  Someone was able to find a test that very math teacher took in college.  Entertaining, but dumb … VERY DUMB!
