In December, Politics Plus dropped in Uniques and Visitors, but Page Views, Hits and Bandwidth were up.  Because I was ill for almost half the month, I’m surprised that we did that well.

There is an extra, because there was a tie for 15th place.

Here’s some linkey-love in return  The best ways you can spread the message to others is to use the share button at the bottom of each article to list our articles on the the networking sites where you belong. Quote PP articles on your own blogs also helps.  The operative commandment here is “thou shalt steal.”  We’re on the same side here, and I encourage it.  Even if you want to repost a whole article, that’s OK.  Just link back, please.  Also, feel free to swipe my graphics in the articles.  If they are labeled with our Politics Plus URL, they are my work.

The top fifteen commenters for December are missing.  I went to copy the names at 8:45 PM on the 31st, and it had already reset.  I thought it reset at Midnight EST.  I guess I’ll just have to do it earlier in the day. The widget is in the right column.  I don’t count, as I’m the resident big mouth, and I try to reply to every comment, except replies directed at someone else.  Those who leave their URLs in their comments, get linkey-love here. Hopefully I’ll get them next month.

We have 604,268 links on other websites, down from 656,839 last month.

We have 3,050 articles and 27,150 comments, as of midnight 1/1.

I recommend using your own avatar. Go to Gravatar.  Sign up using the email address you use to post comments here and upload the image you want to use.  Whenever you comment under that email address here or on any WordPress blog (several others too), that image will be your avatar.

We also have a special announcement.  I have authorized two other people to post articles on Politics Plus.  On the subjects of Canada and Canadian politics we have Lynn Squance, who understands the US better than any Canadian I have known.  On the subjects of Health Care and Medical Issues, we have SoINeedAName, affectionately known here as Nameless, who is a doctor.  I do not know when we can expect to hear from them, but they have the access to post any time they choose.  Please welcome them.

Your participation remains a major part of what makes this blog worth reading, not to mention worth writing. Many people who visit here have told me that they come here to read your comments in addition to my articles, and people continue to write comments about your comments on other sites.  Politics Plus exists to help end right-wing insanity and send the Republican Party the way of the Whigs.  Thank you all for all you do, here and elsewhere, to help make that happen.  Together we will make a difference.

  1. So I guess it’s official — I have to talk like I know what I’m saying?

Cluster Map — interesting how there is a strip through the western mid west US that shows little use compared to the eastern part of the country.  I know part of this will be due population concentrations, but are there other reasons like political leanings?  Just curious.

I previously looked at the site statistics but wanted to see a full year before commenting —

Unique Visitors # of Visits    Pages          Hits Bandwidth

    12 Month Average 22,257 40,360 141,228 1,493,378 18

    December 31,2011 15,455 31,478 345,113 1,093,133 26
    • ‘Unique Visitors’ and ‘# of Visitors’ in December are lower than November which I suppose is due to reduced traffic through Christmas, but both are lower than the 12 month average which I suspect is primarily due to you being so ill.  Would you read it that way?
    • the December ‘Pages’  is almost double your biggest month of October 2011 and almost 2.5 times larger than the 12 month average.  With visits down, why would there be such an extraördinary increase?  Obviously, there is something here in the categories that I do not understand.
    • ‘Hits’ are marginally higher in December over November, which is the opposite to ‘Unique Visitors’ and ‘# of Visits’, and significantly lower than the 12 month average which I again attribute to Christmas and you being so ill.
    • Bandwidth has me totally stumped being a non technocrat!
    • Another thing I noticed is that your highest months seem to follow the tradional (please don’t kill the messenger!) bankers’ quarters — March, June, October and December.  Although December appears not to fit the pattern, had you not been sick, your postings and resulting traffic would have been up.

I look forward to you explaining this to me as this stuff is all new.  No matter the numbers, it certainly looks like you are getting good numbers.  And I also know that the American voters really need your input to help them clarify their own beliefs and responsibilities as citizens in an election.  Thanks TC

    • OK Lynn.  Unique visits are the first visit people make in a month.  Every subsequent visit is just a visit.  I agree with you about why they were below the moving average.

The pages was a mystery, until I looked at the raw logs this morning.  Apparently hackers’ bots, coming through an offshore proxy to hide their IPs, loaded the “Racist Ron Paul Undone” article over a hundred thousand times over three days.  It was probably a denial of service attack to overload the site.

A hit is any time a file on the server is accesses and you are correct.

Bandwidth is the number of bytes, or quantity of data,  the site sends out. I think bandwidth was high because we got heavy traffic on the Christmas videos,

On your bankers’ quarters, I have no idea why.

      Thanks!

      • So you pissed in some conservative’s cornflakes did you?!?  I hope no damage done — I certainly didn’t notice anything.  I have heard of denial of service several times, and some pretty big ones in the past 2 years or so.  Can’t remember the company names but remember it was a big deal and interfered with their ability to conduct business.  So what you’re saying is that the hacker bounced their hack through an off-shore proxy which essentially changes the IP that you see making it hard to trace? or impossible to trace?  Is this something that should be reported to the FBI or is this “too small” for them to consider?  I’m just curious like when I find a mortgage fraud.  I can go ape thinking about it, investigating it, and screwing with so heads if I have to.

        • Well, I have repeatedly said that Ron Paul has never mattered and never will.  That’s the unforgivable sin to acolytes in the Racist Ronnie cult.  I noticed that the site was running slow, but thought my HSP was doing maintenance on the servers.  I would never have even realized had it not hyper-inflated the Pages stat.  Right.  the only the offshore proxy site shows up in the logs, ans not only is it soo small to consider, but also  the FBI has no jurisdiction to get information from offshore sites.

  2. That clustrmap is really impressive.  This site is getting so many international hits.  Good!

    • I, too, get a kick out of ClustrMaps.  (You know you can click on the little ClustrMaps in the upper left-hand corner and it’ll show visitors by location in real-time – although it seems to take about 15-30 seconds before it captures them.)

    • Thanks, I like them too, but we fell off the 1,000 busiest last month.

  3. Tom,

I used the phrase “Supply Side Jesus” in a comment on Huffpost and got a reply with a link to the “Gospel of Supply Side Jesus” which was created, in part, by Al Franken. Just in case this isn’t where you got the term, I thought you might get a kick out of it. Enjoy. http://www.bobonline.net/progxiansd/ssj/index.html

  4. Congrats Lynn and Nameless!

  5. My lowly little blogging self can’t compare, TomCat. Here I was, just overjoyed and overcaffeinated over the fact that I had over 6,000 visitors to my site in December, and then read of your total for the same month, 2 1/2 times greater, being second lowest for  you in 2011.

At least I won the Fantasy Football championship!!!  (do I get a prize?)

    • Rob, 6,000 visitors at a relatively new site is nothing to sneeze at.  Be proud of a job well done.  Last I checked, the onlyt place we were in competition, you kicked my ass.  You have three trophies in the league site: Champion, Regular season champion, scoring champion.

  6. Congrats to Nameless and Lynn!
