Is Newt a Felon?

Doing my research yesterday, I ran across an interesting video by Liberal Viewer on this subject that focused primarily on how the Republican Ministry of Propaganda, aka Fox, lies in their coverage of Newt’s record.  To give you a better appreciation of what happened, here is an article, dated January 22, 1997, followed by the video, so you well be prepared to refute Republican lies on this subject.

NewtNeutered[6]The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House’s 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.

The ethics case and its resolution leave Gingrich with little leeway for future personal controversies, House Republicans said. Exactly one month before yesterday’s vote, Gingrich admitted that he brought discredit to the House and broke its rules by failing to ensure that financing for two projects would not violate federal tax law and by giving the House ethics committee false information.

"Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). "If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment."

House Democrats are likely to continue to press other ethics charges against Gingrich and the Internal Revenue Service is looking into matters related to the case that came to an end yesterday.

The 395 to 28 vote closes a tumultuous chapter that began Sept. 7, 1994, when former representative Ben Jones (D-Ga.), then running against Gingrich, filed an ethics complaint against the then-GOP whip. The complaint took on greater significance when the Republicans took control of the House for the first time in four decades, propelling Gingrich into the speaker’s chair…[emphasis added]

The important thing to remember here is that Newt was still under investigation for over eighty more crimes, so his own party forced him out to avoid additional embarrassment, making the House investigation moot.  The case was not turned over to DOJ.

I do not understand why Democrats never seem to pursue criminal charges against guilty Republicans, when Republicans have no qualms about pursuing criminal charges against guilty or innocent Democrats.

  1. Thanks for this coverage, it turns my stomach to travel in that time machine – but in this case it would behoove the country to revisit it. I well remember the fact that there were several charges that remained uninvestigated when he was ousted – and I was upset at the time that he would just be “fined” when I was rather certain that indeed he was a felon. I hope at a “certain time” Ms. Pelosi might speak out about that sequestered time and the goods she holds on him – he has no NO right to be campaigning for any office in our government – I really am appalled!

    • what’s so sad,  the Dems are such worthless weanies, they don’t go after anyone for committing crimes even Wall Street Bankers, they’re just as corrupt as Newt,  in my eyes. Maybe that’s why the DOJ doesn’t go after any of the players in the Wall Street corruption…

      • Welcome Gloria! 🙂

I agree, but don’t be too sure.  Criminal investigations at this level take several years to complete, and the few such started under Bush were trashed before he left office.  Holder had to start from scratch, but I understand that investigations are underway.

    • That was my thinking, Lee.  With Faux Noise lying about what happened, someone needed to set the record straight.

  2. “Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House,” said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). “If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment.”  That in 1997.

How the times have changed!  Now the Republican/Teabaggers are controlled by the likes of the Koch brothers, Karl Rove and Grover Norquist — sleazoids all!   So far, the Republican/Teabagger voters, sheeple all with short memories, OR selective memories, are buying the current party line spoon fed to them using very large spoons, otherwise known as shovels!  As usual, humans recognise their own kind first, so the sleazoids recognise Newt, another sleazoid and hold him in high regard in the bull pen.  The regard is so high that I can smell it from here, north of the 49th.  These Republican/Teabaggers need a real shitkicking with really pointy toed shitkickers (also known as cowboy boots)!

If something smells rotten, it usually is.  Like you TC, I do not understand the Democrats’ reluctance to take out the trash

Newt needs to be newtered!  The Republican/Teabaggers need to be put out of our misery.

Oh, and about those 2 kitties watching Newt on the tellie in the cartoon, that qualifies as animal abuse!  Where’s the ASPCA when you need them?  Good cartoon!

  3. Gingrich knows he’s in major slime and sleazeball territory when convicted felon Jack Abramoff charges him with being guilty of “engaging in the exact kind of corruption America disdains”.

  4. The short answer is: yes. By the letter of existing law at that time, Newt is a felon. Felonies are, of course, celebrated in the Rushpubliscum Party, as is stupidity.

  5. I’ll say it again. The Newtster is inherently evil.

  6. Out of the muck that is what is left of the GOP , slithers this slime bucket- illustrating all that is evil in the party of corruption – Of course he is a Felon– with a heart as black as any felon actually serving time ; I question the lack of guts  which kept him from being prosecuted as he deserved–14- 18 years ! Not very long is it– What in the Hell is wrong with those who would actually vote for this douchebag– How short are memories anyway ?

    • See my reply to JR.

Nevertheless, Newt does not belong in office, because it’s foolish to put eben a reformed bank robber in charge of guarding the vault.
