After several false starts, the Boehner Bill finally passed the house without a single Democratic vote, not even from the most cowardly blue dog.  But the Boehner Bill could not stand up to the first motion in the Senate to table it.  Every Democrat and six Republicans voted it down.  Based on the way he was talking earlier in the week, I had hoped in vain that Mitch McConnell (R-KY) might be reasonable in the eleventh hour.  He announced that he will filibuster the Reid plan, and he refused to negotiate with Reid.  Here’s more.

30limpThe Senate voted Friday evening to reject Speaker John A. Boehner’s debt-ceiling plan just hours after it moved through the House, setting up a dramatic weekend of negotiations as Congress works to stave off a potential federal default.

The Senate tally was 59-41 on the motion to table the House plan, including some Republican votes.

Even as leaders from both parties engage in frenetic talks on the way forward, the House will hold yet another symbolic vote. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor announced the chamber plans to hold a vote on legislation that closely mirrors Reid’s plan, planning to kill it  even before the Senate can adopt it… [emphasis added]

As of the time I collected ,my sources, which six Republicans broke ranks was not yet posted.

Now Conrad is a terrible DINO, but in this instance he’s right.  Lawrence continues with Ezra Klein and Jay Newton-Small.

So here we are.  Democrats could not have done more to reach a compromise, going so far that the progressive base is livid.  But in their mindless lust to transfer the rest of the nation’s wealth to millionaires, billionaires and corporate criminals, and to establish a permanent one-party dictatorship, Republicans sowed the wind of InsaniTEA.  I fear we may all reap the whirlwind.

  1. It is very frightening, as the possibilities of disaster move closer to probability– The aims of the tea baggers , and also I think , the Republican Party, become re clear ; it seems they want to destroy everything that has made this nation great , the respect of the world has already been lost–A lot of damage has already been done ; but this bunch of mindless , immature useless twits in Washington- representing the wealthy and powerful , not the people they are supposed to be representing- just keep on playing games with the health of this once great Country–

  2. I simply hate those bastards. At least my TN rep voted against Boehner’s bill – another kind of abortion. I was a bit worried because he’s a Blue Dog.

  3. I don’t see any good result from this debacle — lots more pain for the 98% of us who are not millionaires. In the interest of preserving some personal sanity, I have signed a pledge not to watch or read any coverage of this circus until Tuesday at the earliest.

  4. Septugenarian Ninja Turtle McConnell refuses to negotiate.

Agent Orange cried himself to sleep last night.

    14the Amendment, Mr. President!

  5. Boehner showed a lack of power by having to include a balanced budget amendment provision in the bill. Looks like the teabaggers are running the show. In the end, this may wake up some other republican congressmen to support a compromise bill that includes revenues just to weaken the baggers.

  6. Last night in a most excellent interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN Fareed Zakaria basically said that the Tea Party is hellbent on turning our Founding Fathers into “deadbeat dads”. Below are Zakaria’s own paraphrased words from that interview:

    * They’ll blow up the country
    * They’ll hold the credit of the U.S. hostage
    * They hijack the entire system
    * They don’t understand the workings of democracy
    * They have not been elected as dictators of the U.S.
    * Extraordinary act of hostage taking
    * They’ve already damaged the good standing of the U.S.
    * It’s a national emergency almost like a war
    * Tea Party congressmen rely on “magic” for their claims

Source is DailyKos which has a Link to the actual video – which I can’t hear:

And literally from around the world the Tea Party antics this week were described as “Absurd theatrics,” “No self-awareness,” “Laughing stock” and “Dangerously irresponsible.”

  7. What in the heck is wrong with Barack Obama? If a foreign nation was responsible for causing the U.S. to default on its debts you can bet that War would be declared for “Economic Terrorism.” What exactly is the difference between foreign and domestic terrorism?

    • Mr. Cormier. I encourage people who read and comment here on a regular basis, but for someone to self-promote in their very first visit is SPAM. Almost everywhere it is considered discourteous and disrespectful.

The difference between foreign and domestic terrorism is that Al Dubya is a far greater threat to this nation that Al; Qaeda ever was. However, since Republicans in the Congress are the source of that terrorism, and since declarations of war are Congress’ purview, I consider it far fetched to expect Congress to declare war on itself.

  8. It’s just so totally ironic that the country is now being run by a small minority of extremists who are, daily, accusing the rest of us of allowing the country to be run by a minority of LIBRULS. It would be funny if it wasn’t so friggin dangerous for the fiscal and literal health of the nation.

    • Blue, I’m getting up there in years and I’ve never seen anything like it. Had someone described this to me in the 1960s I would have called them crazy.

  9. It’s now obvious that my comment is no longer awaiting moderation – you just refuse to publish it. Fascinating. We allow comments that don’t agree with our ideology but publish them anyway. We don’t want to engage in the terrible outrage that exists in the MSM where they only publish what they want to hear rather than attempting to address any comment that comes their way – rather than publishing other valid and important viewpoints.

I also find it interesting that in the United States, Alexa.com ranks our site way better than yours, and while our traffic is rising – yours is falling. Maybe you folks should take a good look in the mirror…

    • William Cormier! I don’t think anyone gives a rip about your so-called “site”. 😈

      • Rather than attacking me, try responding to the original comment instead. Any site that holds comments because they don’t agree with the content is what’s essentially wrong with the MSM and Political Sites throughout the United States. We’ve lost our ability to engage in critical thinking, debate and legitimate compromise. My last comment was for the Moderators of this site – not the readership. After a couple of hours after another comment was approved it became obvious that my link to “Economic Terrorism” and the article it referenced was not going to be approved. Then, approving both at the same time made me look bad – but that’s life.

Personal attacks rather than responding to the issue at large is what our political system has devolved into – and it’s a blight on the entire country. Ever since I wrote the article referenced herein, several talking heads and politicians are now stating that the Tea Party Reps and other members of the GOP are engaging in Economic Terrorism but have not demanded that appropriate action be taken to stop this assault on the economy and global standing of the United States. Read the article and if you have an intelligent comment – let’s hear it, otherwise, you’re no better than the rest of the establishment.

        • Mr. Cormier, Johnny knows that I do not censor opposing views and reacted to your tantrum somewhat mildly. You are the one here who was doing the attacking.

Once a comment from an individual has been approved, his comments are no longer moderated. I did not make you look bad. You did.

    • Couple of thoughts:

[1] Tomorrow, try getting up on the OTHER side of the bed!
      [2] YOU LIE
[2-A] Alexa does NOT rate your site”way better” … unless you start from the bottom up
      [2-B] Alexa on “thepoliticalbandit.com”
Alexa Traffic Rank: 2,539,226 Traffic Rank in US: 456,426 Sites Linking In: 7
      http://www.alexa.com/search?q=thepoliticalbandit.com&r=home_home&p=bigtop
      [2-C] Alexa on “PoliticsPlus.org”
Alexa Traffic Rank: 715,499 Traffic Rank in US: 232,966 Sites Linking In: 77
      http://www.alexa.com/search?q=www.politicsplus.org%2Fblog%2F&r=home_home&p=bigtop
[3] Even someone with rudimenary math skills (which you apparently lack) would recognize that PoliticsPlus ranking of 715,499 is WAY ahead of your site’s ranking of 2,539,226
[4] WRT rising/falling – Alexa doesn’t even have enough data on your “site” to evaluate even THREE months of activity!
How much did you have to pay to get your neighbors and nieces and nephews and aunts and uncles and etc. … to click on your “site” once?
      Enquiring minds want to know.

[5] Google CAN be your friend … try it before you make claims that are easily refutable

      • PS – William Cormier, your site may be absolutely wonderful – the bees’ knees and all – but denigrating someone else’s site is NOT the way to gain viewers. After all, you can attract more people with honey than you can with …

      • Thanks Nameless. I don’t even follow Alexa rankings, but looking at his blog, there didn’t seem to be a lot of activity. I don’t blame him for trying to drum up traffic. Ironically, had he not acted like such a jerk, I would have been happy to help him. I did check is blog on the premier ranking service, Technorati. They don’t even list it.

    • Hey Billy! How about an intelligent comment on the topic instead of just pimping your own site?

    • Mr Cormier. When you posted your original message. I was asleep. When you posted this diatribe, accusing me of censuring you and then attacking me and this blog, less than two hours later, I was still asleep.

Had you spent any time reading here, instead of just dropping SPAM, you would know that I do not object to your viewpoint. I have called the Republican hostage crisis terrorism on at least a dozen occasions. I do, however, object to your offensive behavior, and for that reason, have programmed the software to keep you moderated until you demonstrate that you can behave like an adult here.

  10. Memphis Johnny;

  11. Just to keep things in context, I am making my comments on PoliticsPlus not on Mr. Cormier’s site. If Mr. Cormier is that thin skinned, might I suggest he “take a powder” and just calm down a little. 😀

  12. This comment is for the Moderator:

This comment, as was my second, was made for the eyes of the Moderator. If you choose to publish it – as you did the other, that’s your business; it’s your site. It seemed perfectly straight-forward that my second comment was also “for the Moderator” and is what stirred-up this firestorm. As for me, in the same circumstances, I might have handled it differently. (An email to the individual with a cryptic message of “Hey Dude, I was sleeping – relax.) I too deal with people who are caught-up in the moment and are attempting to interject a thought into what is a contentious debate, one which doesn’t seem to provide alternative answers for anyone. (I was attempting to provide such an “alternative” solution – not spamming your site.) I also wouldn’t have made a public comment in regard traffic because that’s not relevant to the discussion, however, it did communicate my frustration with the Moderator – You.

If those who believe that my “math skills are lacking, I would reply that whoever made that remark has an issue with the simple art of observation. ThePoliticalBandit is the same site as Justanothercoverup and underwent a name change quite a while ago, and when anyone accesses the site and “notes that there doesn’t seem to be much activity” should also be aware that the primary web address is Justanothercoverup rather than the political bandit.

Alexa Traffic Rank: 374,132 Traffic Rank in US: 58,929 Sites Linking In: 75

    http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/justanothercoverup.com#

Add ThePoliticalBandit rankings and the “rating” would be higher, which is an issue I haven’t figured out how to resolve. No, I didn’t lie about the rankings, but again, that comment was not meant for the public. It was a “Moderator to Moderator” comment – and I thought is was obvious. You certainly have my apology if you honestly believed that said comment for for anyone but your eyes, and in retrospect, I should have emailed it.

If you check out my history, over the past seven years of running Justanothercoverup/ThePoliticalBandit, I have never publicly attacked any left-leaning site. It does nothing for the readership but start a pissing contest which effectively takes away from the real issues any honest political site is attempting to address, including Politics Plus.

One thing I won’t do is to continue posting on this thread and in doing so disrupt the meaningful debate on the fraud that is being perpetrated on the American public. The new “deal” that is being proposed by Congress probably contains the proviso that a “Super Congress” comprised of 12 Senators will have the ability to ram any budget cuts through Congress without debate not can it be challenged – something that is not included in our constitution. Unfortunately, the compromise is something that will screw all of us – and most of are probably waiting for the hammer to fall – and it will, right in our pocketbooks.

Again, you have my apology. Trying to make the true Alexa rankings public serves no purpose; if your readership perceives that I was lying, I can live with that and I’ll take the hit for not sending my comment via email rather than in a comment I never believed would be published. One thing I don’t do is lie, period.

    Have a good day.

    • William, I posted this so that my readers can see that you are behaving civilly. I have released you from moderation, so your comments should be automatically approved.

You know, when you accuse someone of censorship, you should realize that, if you are not being censored, whatever you post next is going to be published just to demonstrate that fact.

Now I know who you are. I have buzzed your articles on occasion at Buzzflash. Your name change came at an inconvenient time for you, because you had almost made Technorati’s C List. When I moved Politics Plus from Blogger, it took them almost a year recognize Politics Plus again.

Your explanation on your Alexa ratings is reasonable, but Nameless had no way to know that the ratings you claimed were combining your old and new sites. I will check Alexa out. I’ve never listed there. Technorati rates PP as the 409th most influential political blog in the world, and we average over 100,000 page views per month, not counting remote views.

      Let me start this again.

      Welcome William. 🙂

      • Thanks Tom Cat;

When I read that you had taken a nap early in the afternoon, it struck me that you’ve probably been doing the same thing that I have – existing on little or no sleep while this (manufactured?) crisis rages on in Washington and keeping track of any/all developments that arise. I’ve been irritable and dumbstruck at what I perceived to be a crisis that would give Obama the political cover to cut so-called “entitlements” – and much to my displeasure, it appears that I was correct in believing that President Obama would cave-in to GOP demands. This article in Time Magazine says it all:

        http://swampland.time.com/2011/07/31/new-hope-and-frustrations-as-congressional-republicans-near-a-debt-deal-with-the-white-house/?hpt=hp_t2

This Tea-Tard led assault on the nation’s social programs hits much to closer to home for me, and countless millions of other Americans. I don’t speculate on how much of a financial crisis it would be to those whom depend on these programs – I speak from experience. My total income from Social Security Disability is $829 after Medicare is deducted automatically from my check. I help my Sister and her two children who have an income of $480 per month, and even though it has been tough – we’ve found a way to survive on an income that’s low for four people. (And millions more have even less…) If they cut Social Security/Medicare, I honestly don’t see where we can cut more to keep a roof over our head and still pay the bills, although the hard, cold reality is that we will have to – and it won’t be pretty.

I would urge everyone to now direct their emails and phone calls to Senate Democrats; they hold the key, as the White House has already caved-in. There isn’t much time left. This Committee they are proposing, described by some as a “Super Congress” threatens all Americans, not just lower income people who have never had much of a voice in this nation. They will begin with us, and in no time at all, will continue their protracted Class War against the majority of the people.

One last thought… Isn’t it interesting that those of us in the Liberal/Progressive community can man-up and admit we were wrong, while the GOP has never made a mistake in judgment unless it’s for an illicit sexual encounter or overt racism, and then only own-up because it’s the “politically correct” thing to do?

        Thanks Again

        • You are correct in that assumption. In addition, I had just completed one of two days a month in which I volunteer in prison to help prisoners learn the cognitive skills necessary for survival, so I was exhausted that day. However, between health, medical appointments, and research, it often takes me twelve hours or more to approve a first comment.

A lot has happened since you put up those links, and I can’t say I’m enamored with the reputed “deal”. I’m waiting to learn the details, but think we need to direct email to House Democrats as well.

I have no problem with being wrong. When I am, I say so. I think that the difference is that we on the left do not supper from concrete thinking error as much as those on the right. We see possibilities where they see only black or white.

YVW and thank you. How do you like to br called, William or Bill? I answer to Tom or TC.

          • Bill will work just fine. Very busy now sorting through how bad Obama has screwed us – and it appears to be monumental! Went to the pharmacy to pick up some blood pressure Meds and learned that Seniors have come into the store and stated they were up all night, literally frightened to the point of despair…

            Talk about Economic Terrorism….

            • Me too. Economic terrorism indeed. I wanted to take some time before I reacted, and the only good part is that it derailed the InsaniTEA wing’s attempt to force default.

    • I apologize if my remarks seemed intemperate to you – but as mentioned, I had no way of knowing of any other incarnations of your site other than what your name links to.
I, for one, look forward to reading your future comments here.

      • No harm, no foul. It was I that opened up that can of worms, albeit inadvertently. I should also add that I’m known for flying off the handle when someone attempts to derail a meaningful political debate on some of my favorite forums – and understanding the circumstances, I’d be quite a hypocrite if I held any hard feelings for those whom were merely defending Politics Plus. 😳

  13. If they all would just grow some big boy balls, perhaps we will be in a better place.

Sorry, the comment form is closed at this time.
